ASPIRING young poets from Gunnedah have the chance to shine with the home-grown national Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards now open for 2021. Open to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, the awards are Australia’s longest-running annual poetry competition for children and are a chance for local youth to have their voices heard. Named after renowned bush poet Dorothea Mackellar, the competition attracts thousands of entries and students have the chance to win up to $500 in prize money.
